Get to know Ricardo

For those of you who haven’t met me yet, I’m Ricardo Villarreal. I am the proud son of a farmer and a Mexican immigrant. I have been a lifelong Texan, born and raised in Laredo and calling San Antonio home for over 17 years. I am not a politician. Instead, I am a Doctor, quality healthcare advocate, Army veteran, policy wonk, scholar, husband, and a father of two boys.

As a physician, I took the Hippocratic oath, pledging to abstain from all intentional wrong-doing and do no harm. Then as an Army officer, I took an oath to protect the constitution and live by the Army values of Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. Finally, I have spent over two decades of my life dedicated to improving the care and outcomes of patients, starting in front-line care delivery and then in administrative roles. My passion for service is fueled by knowing that there is always a way to improve because we deserve better.

I have had the privilege to work for common purposes and goals throughout my career with people from different disciplines, backgrounds, and values. I want to continue working with folks with different perspectives and ideologies because we all want to make things better at the end of the day. I stand for good education, good health care, and good jobs for all Americans. We can have different opinions, but we can have a common goal: we all do better when we all work together.

That’s why I am proud to announce that I am running to replace Chip Roy and represent everyone in Texas District 21.
